As mentioned on Twitter last night, I attended the Whittier Business Association meeting and heard some very exciting news in regards to Eat Street. 26th and Nicollet has become a destination for some time now and took a bit of a hit when restaurant anchor Azia closed its doors. I was excited to hear that the building on the corner of 26th and Nicollet, formally the location for Azia and Taco Morales is currently in the process of being renovated (equipped with HVAC). There are some prospective tenants currently working out the details but it sounds like restaurants will soon fill this wonderful corner of Eat Street again.
Those of you familiar with Vertical Endeavors in St. Paul will be happy to know that if all goes well there will also be another location on Nicollet between 26th and 25th right between the Jasmine Deli and ‘Azia’ building. This will occupy the old Ice House that you may not have ever noticed existed. It sounds like the complex will be one of the larger climbing facilities in the region and will definitely be a destination spot for folks outside of the neighborhood in addition to the already prevalent Minneapolis climbing ‘gym rats’. This will be a big draw to the neighborhood especially during the weekday evenings and weekends which inevitably should be positive for local restaurant owners. As a former Vertical Endeavors regular I am excited and hopeful this will come together soon.
I don’t have all of the details but am thrilled to see some activity back in the area!
